EL MAR N°2209
2022
Abstract Expressionism on fine art paper by the artist Gustaf Tidholm.
This is the ninth artwork in the EL MAR series.
EL MAR N°2209 is a work that transforms depending on the viewer’s perspective. When displayed vertically, it feels like a passage through water and light, where deep green tones frame a movement of shifting blue and turquoise hues. When rotated horizontally, it transforms into a coastal landscape, where the green can be interpreted as cliffs or dense vegetation by the sea, while the lighter blue areas mirror the sky on the water’s surface.
A small red accent, almost unnoticeable at first glance, provides an unexpected balance to the composition. It can be seen as a lighthouse, a distant vessel, or the last glimmer of a sunset— a navigation point in the vast expanse.
Through its layered technique, this piece captures the ever-changing nature of the ocean, its ability to reflect light, conceal depths, and shape new forms over time. It is both fluid and structured, both abstract and inspired by nature.
The painting is created with a palette of deep green, blue, turquoise, white, and subtle hints of rust and beige. The technique is executed with acrylic on Lana Vanguard Hi-Tech paper, a high-quality, acid-free material made of 100% polypropylene.
Framing: The artwork is tastefully framed in a simple oak-colored frame with thin plexiglass, enhancing its rich texture and play of light.
Size: 50 x 70 cm.
