EL MAR No.2204
2022
Abstract Expressionism on fine art paper by the artist Gustaf Tidholm.
This is the fourth artwork in the EL MAR series.
This piece captures the depth of the ocean and the eternal presence of the vast horizon. The powerful blue color meets a fragmented, earthy horizon, where time and movement blur the boundaries between water and sky. The surfaces are worked through a layered technique, where light and shadow create a sense of both motion and stillness.
A small red light disrupts the otherwise natural color palette - a lighthouse, a trace of human presence, a distant sign of life. It serves as a point of direction and hope, a contrast to the ocean’s vast and boundless depths.
The sea is a place for both contemplation and adventure. It reminds us of infinity, but also of the importance of finding our own path through the ever-changing landscape.
The painting is created with a blend of deep blue, umber, beige, and rust tones - a palette that captures the ocean’s movement and the shifting horizon. The technique is executed with acrylic on Lana Vanguard Hi-Tech paper, a high-quality, acid-free material made of 100% polypropylene.
Framing: The artwork is tastefully framed in a simple oak-colored frame with thin plexiglass, highlighting the paintings texture and tonal interplay.
Size: 50 x 70 cm.
